How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each mirror in a snug, double‑wall box with foam or molded pulp cradles; bag and isolate mounting hardware so metal cannot contact the glass.
- Fill voids to prevent rattle, add edge protectors across the mirror face, and label cartons “Fragile Glass” and “Do Not Crush” for clearer handling cues.
- For dealer or e‑commerce kits, use partitioned master cartons with corrugated cells; keep individual inners under 30 lb to reduce drop damage risk.
- Palletize with zero overhang, orient cartons upright, add a top pad, then wrap and strap firmly; only select needed accessorials to avoid extra fees.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costing via fixed Class 175—no density calculations or reclass surprises when shipped in boxes.
- Fewer damage claims by isolating hardware and cushioning glass, cutting replacement and return costs.
- Faster quoting and routing thanks to a defined NMFC line item, streamlining dealer and body shop replenishment.
- Non‑hazardous status broadens carrier options and eliminates hazmat surcharges in mixed LTL moves.
