How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Put NMFC 142950 and Class 65 on the BOL, and reference Note 142952 so carriers rate it correctly without density details.
- Cap and thread‑protect each end; protect couplings and centralizers with wraps or guards to prevent impact damage and oil contamination.
- Bundle on pipe racks or sturdy skids with crosswise banding, edge protectors, and chocks; mark center of gravity and allow fork access.
- Measure overall length including couplings and accessories to avoid overlength fees; choose LTL for shorter joints or flatbed when lengths exceed carrier limits.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 65 delivers predictable quotes and reduces reclass/reweigh disputes.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines tendering and avoids hazmat surcharges and paperwork.
- Properly bundled OCTG minimizes handling time and damage claims, protecting premium threads and couplings.
- Supports cost‑effective consolidations with other rig supplies, improving lane utilization and lowering linehaul spend.
