How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Band mast and boom sections by length with steel strapping and edge protectors; tag small parts and bolt kits to a main bundle to prevent loss.
- Use dunnage and blocking to secure loose KD pieces on pickup; confirm the carrier accepts unsecured oilfield components and note any overlength items.
- Mark lift points and center of gravity on each section; provide rigging notes for spreader bars and slings to avoid bending long lattice members.
- Quote with NMFC 143090, Class 77.5 plus piece count, longest length, and loading conditions (yard, jobsite, crane assist) to avoid reclass or accessorials.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with fixed Class 77.5—no density calculation, fewer inspections, and reduced reclass fees.
- Non-hazardous designation eliminates hazmat fees and simplifies documentation, speeding tender and transit.
- KD loose rating lets you move sections instead of full assemblies, enabling LTL or partial TL options and lowering transport spend.
- Placement in the Oil, Water or Gas Well group aligns with carriers familiar with oilfield gear, cutting handling damage and claim costs.
