How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 145700 and Class 92.5 on the bill of lading to avoid reclass and rebills; include the phrase “guns mounted, equipment secured or boxed.”
- Secure the turret and barrel with traverse/elevation locks, muzzle covers, and wheel/track chocks. Drain or declare fluids per carrier policy to maintain non‑haz status.
- Stow tools, spare track, radios, and optics inside locked compartments or box them and band the boxes to the tank; nothing should ride loose on deck.
- Pre‑plan loading with a lowboy or step‑deck rated for the tank’s weight, use approved chain tie‑downs at OEM lashing points, and document photos of securement for claims protection.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 92.5 simplifies rating and delivers predictable LTL/partial truckload quotes for armored vehicle moves.
- Non‑hazardous designation eliminates hazmat surcharges and shortens terminal acceptance and linehaul handling times.
- Clear scope—guns mounted and equipment boxed or secured—reduces dispute risk, reclassification fees, and delivery delays.
- Consistent NMFC coding supports museums, surplus dealers, and defense contractors with reliable budgeting and insurance compliance.
