How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm contents are empty accessories only—no ammunition, primers, or clips—to keep the shipment non-hazardous and eligible for standard LTL networks.
- Pack bandoleers flat in boxes with light poly bags or kraft wrap to prevent sling hardware from scuffing fabric; use simple chipboard dividers for neat counts (e.g., 25 per carton).
- Mark cartons clearly: “Cotton Bandoleer Pouches, Empty” plus NMFC 145750 and Class 77.5 to prevent hazmat misrouting and reclassification at terminals.
- Palletize 48x40 with uniform cartons, 4-way entry; cap, strap, and wrap to 60 in. max height for stackability and faster cross-dock handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Non-hazardous status avoids hazmat paperwork and fees, lowering total landed cost for routine resupply to ranges, distributors, and defense contractors.
- Fixed Class 77.5 simplifies rating and quoting—no density calculations—reducing surprises on invoices and streamlining TMS automation.
- Boxed packaging aligns with LTL best practices, cutting handling time and claims risk from sling buckles snagging open freight.
- Clear ordnance-accessory labeling keeps freight in general networks, opening more carrier options and improving transit times.
