How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Bundle KD-flat plant supports in corrugated sleeves with corner protectors; apply two straps per bundle and add an extra strap every 18–24 inches for stability.
- Use plastic or steel strapping over edge guards; place chipboard or corrugated layer pads between stacks to prevent scuffing and bent wire sections.
- Palletize packages and orient the longest legs parallel to forklift forks to minimize bending; keep bundles flush with pallet edges for even weight distribution.
- Mark each bundle: “Plant Supports, KD Flat — NMFC 155820, Class 70.” List piece counts per bundle on the BOL to improve receiving and claims accuracy.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 avoids density math and helps prevent surprise reclass or inspection fees.
- KD-flat packaging reduces cube, improving trailer utilization and lowering LTL linehaul costs.
- Non-hazardous status speeds tendering and avoids hazmat surcharges or special paperwork.
- Clear NMFC citation on documents boosts carrier acceptance and shortens dock dwell time.
