How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Bag-and-box securely: place flakes in sealed poly liners inside sturdy corrugated boxes (32 ECT or better) and tape all seams to prevent glitter-like leakage.
- Limit static cling and contamination: use anti-static liners or dryer sheets, avoid foam peanuts, and fill voids with kraft paper so contents don’t migrate.
- Palletize multi-carton loads: keep cartons within the pallet footprint, add corner boards, and stretch-wrap to the base for containment during cross-dock handling.
- Bill correctly: print NMFC 156150 and Class 150 on the BOL, note “Plastic Film Display Flakes—Non-Hazardous,” and separate from liquids or sharp goods.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 150 removes density calculations and cuts reclass disputes on lightweight, bulky flakes.
- Lower compliance overhead: non-hazardous status avoids hazmat paperwork and accessorial fees, speeding tender and pickup.
- Fewer delays: boxed packaging aligns with the commodity description, reducing inspections and keeping retail/event timelines on track.
- Reduced claims: leak-resistant packing and pallet containment minimize spillage and contamination, protecting margins and brand partners.
