How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Print NMFC 157226 and Class 70 on the BOL to avoid reclass fees and speed carrier rating.
- For loose moves, bundle pairs and use dunnage or tire chocks to prevent rolling; for LTL, stack on 48x40 pallets and stretch-wrap tightly.
- Nest tires to reduce cube and add edge protectors under banding so the sidewalls don’t deform during transit.
- Small non-pneumatic tires for carts or lawn equipment pack well in Gaylord bins or heavy corrugated boxes for faster handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 provides predictable LTL pricing and simpler quotes—no density calculations needed.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and minimizes compliance costs.
- Ability to ship loose or packaged lets you choose the lowest-cost packing method for your operation.
- Efficient nesting on pallets boosts cube utilization, lowering cost per tire and reducing OS&D claims.
