How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- When quoting LTL, select NMFC 157560 at Class 50—no density or dimensional entry required for this commodity.
- Pack plugs in cartons or nested layers on a pallet; add corner boards and top caps to prevent compression. Keep away from excess heat or moisture to protect the resin bond.
- For paper mills and converters, co-load plugs with paper rolls on the same pallet and note “Paper Roll Plugs—Molded” on the BOL for clear identification.
- If shipping loose bulk, use lined gaylords to contain fines and small parts, then stretch-wrap thoroughly so individual plugs don’t escape during transit.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Low Class 50 rating helps secure competitive LTL rates and predictable quotes across carriers.
- Single, simple classification minimizes reclass risks, inspection delays, and surprise fees.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier availability and avoids hazmat surcharges and paperwork.
- Nested, space-efficient packing increases units per pallet, lowering shipping cost per plug.
