How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack bushings in sturdy boxes or wood crates with tight interior blocking so round pieces don’t roll and abrade; add dividers between sizes to prevent rubbing.
- Line cartons with poly wrap or paper to keep dust and wood fibers contained, and use desiccant in humid regions to limit moisture swelling during transit.
- Label each package with piece count and “Wood Hardware – Cross-Arm Bushings” so terminals can verify quickly and avoid reclass or inspection delays.
- Keep metal bolts and brackets in a separate carton; mixing dense steel with wood parts can cause punctures and increase damage claims.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 simplifies rating, avoiding density disputes and helping you lock in predictable LTL quotes.
- Non-hazardous wooden hardware moves easily through carrier networks, shortening tender-to-pickup timelines.
- Boxed or crated packs stack cleanly, improving trailer cube and reducing handling damage for utility-grade components.
- Consistent use of NMFC 160030 supports accurate tariffs and lowers reweigh/reclass fees across pole and transmission projects.
