How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Bundle cords before boxing to prevent tangling; coil each pull’s cord and secure with a twist tie or small band, then place in a poly bag.
- Use sturdy cartons (32–44 ECT) with dividers or padded void fill so metal pulls do not chafe cords; mark cartons as “Window Shade Hardware.”
- Palletize with no overhang, add corner protectors, and strap or stretch-wrap tightly; keep boxes oriented upright to protect cord terminations.
- Print the NMFC reference and Class 85 on the BOL to avoid reclass; example: “Pulls, window shade, metal and cord combined, in boxes – Class 85.”
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable LTL costs at Class 85 for boxed window shade pulls, simplifying quotes and budgeting.
- Accurate labeling reduces reclass fees and inspection delays, keeping deliveries on schedule.
- Protective boxing and cord bundling lower OS&D claims, cutting replacement and reshipment costs.
- Clear, non-hazmat status speeds carrier acceptance and dock processing for faster throughput.
