How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the item meets the legal definition of a gambling device or an essential part (e.g., RNG boards, payout chips, bill validators, reel mechanisms) and document model and serial numbers.
- If the item falls under this NMFC entry, do not tender it. Set class to N/A in your TMS, block booking, and mark internal records as “Prohibited From Transport.”
- For rare exceptions (e.g., authorized returns, law-enforcement transfer, destruction), obtain written legal authorization and carrier consent; use sealed packaging and chain‑of‑custody logs.
- Do not reclassify as arcade or amusement equipment. If chance-based payout or gaming logic is present, treat it as prohibited under this listing.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Avoids fines, seizure, and legal exposure by halting prohibited shipments before pickup.
- Prevents costly refusals, storage fees, reconsignments, and chargebacks from misdeclared freight.
- Protects carrier relationships and risk scores, reducing claim frequency and compliance audits.
- Automated TMS rules (SKU blocks, N/A class flags) cut manual reviews and training time.
