How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Box each rack or holder with internal dividers; wrap pegs and arms to prevent punctures, and polybag finished wood or metal to avoid rub marks.
- For acrylic or lacquered pieces, keep protective film on, add foam corners, and use kraft or bubble for void fill—not loose peanuts that shift.
- Palletize upright, strap and stretch-wrap; mark Do Not Crush or No Top Stack if protrusions could deform, and list NMFC 164750 Class 100 on the BOL.
- Describe the freight as smoking pipe racks or holders to avoid confusion with plumbing parts; provide counts and box sizes for quotes, not for class.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 100 delivers predictable LTL pricing across wood, metal, or acrylic units when shipped in boxes.
- No density rating required reduces reweigh/reclass risk and cuts surprise adjustment fees.
- Standard carton packaging avoids costly crating, speeding retail replenishment and ecommerce returns.
- Non-hazardous designation broadens carrier options and transit flexibility for tight timelines.
