NMFC 166110 - Railway Coupling Pins | Class 50

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. List on the BOL as “Coupling Pins—railway car/locomotive, NMFC 166110, Class 50, non-haz.” to prevent reclass and speed rating.
2. Package dense pins in steel mesh bins, returnable totes, or heavy wood crates; if palletized, keep within 48x40 inches, add a top cap, and secure with two or more steel bands plus stretch wrap.
3. Prevent leakage and corrosion: bag small pins, use VCI paper or a light oil film, and line crates with poly if oiled so carriers accept the freight.
4. Mark heavy pieces (>150 lb) with HEAVY labels, keep center of gravity centered for forklift access on two sides, and brace interiors so pins cannot roll or punch through walls.
