How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote and tender at Class 175; note “NMFC 168810 – electric razors in boxes” on the BOL for clean rating and fewer rebills.
- Use sturdy corrugated boxes or master cartons with foam or trays around cutter heads; bag chargers and small parts to stop scuffing.
- Palletize with no overhang, apply edge boards, and stretch-wrap top to bottom; limit stacking height since light cartons crush easily.
- If units include rechargeable batteries, keep them installed in the razor and follow carrier battery handling rules; avoid mixing with liquids on the same pallet.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable rating at Class 175 enables accurate cost forecasting and faster spot quotes.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and shortens transit lead times for retail replenishment.
- Damage-resistant packing reduces claims, accessorials, and returns—protecting margins on small electronics.
- Consolidating retail cartons into master packs or pallets cuts handling units and lowers per-unit freight spend.
