How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm your shipment fits NMFC 172460: self‑contained sauna or steam room units, with or without integrated showers, packed in boxes or crates. If sending separate panels or generators, review related notes (items 172461–172463).
- Package for impact and moisture: brace glass doors and panels, secure heaters and steam generators, wrap controls and electronics, and band the crate to a pallet. This class assumes boxed or crated freight—no loose pieces.
- Prepare for handling and quoting: measure the outside of the crate or box (including pallet), list each piece count, apply “This Side Up” and “Do Not Stack” labels. Example: 1 crate 72x40x78, 900 lb, NMFC 172460, Class 150.
- Plan accessorials early: request liftgate for residential or spa studios, limited access for resorts or wellness centers, and delivery appointments. Note long or heavy crates may need wider forks or team handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 150 rating streamlines LTL quotes and reduces reclass risk, giving predictable freight charges for spa builders and distributors.
- Boxed/crated requirement lowers damage exposure on glass, heaters, and controls—fewer claims and fewer service interruptions for installations.
- Coverage includes sauna–shower combo units, minimizing miscoding across multiple NMFC items and speeding up billing and inspections.
- Not density-based, so rates are easier to benchmark across carriers, improving rate shopping and transit planning for project timelines.
