NMFC Description Class
178350.00 STANDS GROUP:

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Confirm the stand variety and material (retail display bases, AV equipment stands, lab instrument supports) to plan stability and blocking requirements.
  2. Pack boxed or crated: remove detachable feet or shelves, pad edges, bag hardware, and band to a 4-way pallet with corner boards; use a crate for tall or glass-topped units.
  3. Measure the footprint and highest point; keep everything within the pallet deck to avoid overhang fees and note the center of gravity on tall or top-heavy pieces.
  4. For multi-piece kits, bundle similar parts, mark "knock-down" on the BOL, and list piece counts so terminals can stack safely and avoid reweigh/reclass delays.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Consolidates diverse stand SKUs under one NMFC reference, simplifying TMS setup, vendor routing guides, and quote workflows.
  • Correct packaging for top-heavy stands reduces claim risk and accessorials, stabilizing LTL rates across repeated shipments.
  • Disassembly and nesting cut cube and avoid oversize charges, improving cost per hundredweight and trailer utilization.
  • Clear center-of-gravity labeling speeds cross-dock handling, reducing dwell and improving on-time performance for rollouts and events.
