How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the match: pedestal-style TV stands with iron/steel uprights and an aluminum base, shipped KD flat in boxes. Do not code wall mounts or consoles under this item.
- Pack for point loads: wrap and pad the aluminum base to prevent scuffing, add blocking so hardware and columns cannot slide, and use double-wall cartons for heavier bases.
- Palletize smartly: center the heaviest end of each box on the pallet, avoid overhang, add corner boards, then strap and stretch-wrap. Stack only if cartons are crush-rated.
- Bill accurately: list NMFC 178695, Class 70 on the BOL. Mark cartons This Side Up and Do Not Drop to protect the base casting and column alignment.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 removes density disputes, speeding quotes and reducing reclass charges.
- KD flat, boxed packaging trims cube and enables tighter pallet builds, lowering LTL cost per unit.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and simplifies routing during peak seasons.
- Clear product coding (TV pedestal stands with aluminum base) reduces claims and keeps showroom installs on schedule.
