How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Ship the bladder fully drained and vapor-free. Cap or plug all ports and AN fittings, bag the cell to prevent abrasion, and coil or flat-fold without creasing attachment points.
- If wood or metal supports ship with the cell, wrap them separately inside the same package so sharp edges can’t chafe the rubber or fabric during transit.
- Use rigid, double-wall cartons or a light crate sized to the collapsed footprint. Add foam or corrugate blocking, and mark “Do Not Stack” if fittings protrude.
- On the BOL, list “Fuel or Oil Cells, rubber or fabric, collapsed, in packages – NMFC 181150, Class 100, non-hazardous” to avoid reclass or inspection delays.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with fixed Class 100—no density calculation or tiering, reducing quote variance and reclass disputes.
- Non-hazardous status eliminates HazMat fees and special handling paperwork, expanding carrier options and cutting overhead.
- Collapsed, packaged format lowers cube and protects fittings, improving pallet efficiency and reducing damage claims.
- Clear NMFC alignment streamlines procurement and transfers for motorsports, aviation MRO, and marine yards, speeding turnaround times.
