How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List the item as “Finished wood flooring squares, foam-backed (≤1/8 in), boxed — NMFC 182355, Class 65” on your BOL, and include box and pallet counts.
- Keep product in factory boxes; add edge guards and tight void fill to protect tile corners and the thin foam backing from crush or shear damage.
- Palletize boxes flat with no overhang; use a top sheet and corner boards, then stretch-wrap and apply two wide straps without bowing the boxes.
- Verify the backing thickness is 1/8 inch or less; if thicker or not foam/cellular plastic, recheck NMFC before tendering to avoid reclass fees.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing at fixed Class 65 enables straightforward LTL quoting and faster rate comparisons.
- Lower reclass risk by matching the spec exactly—finished wood squares, foam-backed ≤1/8 inch, in boxes.
- Non-hazardous status streamlines carrier acceptance and avoids HazMat surcharges or special documentation.
- Boxed format stacks efficiently on pallets, improving cube utilization and reducing damage-related claims.
