NMFC 185540 - Paving Rammers & Tampers | Class 70

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. List NMFC 185540 and Class 70 on the BOL, and note “hand-operated, not machine or power tool held” to prevent misclassification with powered tampers or attachments.
2. For loose tools, band handles together, cap cutting edges, and shrink-wrap to a 4-way pallet; add corner boards and top cap to guard against stack pressure.
3. When shipping mixed paving tools, crate heavy steel heads low with blocking and bracing, and secure lighter handles separately to avoid punctures in transit.
4. Jobsite deliveries are rough—use hardwood skids, 2+ steel straps, and clear lift points so carriers can handle heavy rammers and tampers without damage claims.
