Note 187762: NOTE-Applies on collapsible metal tubes such as paint or paste tubes.

How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm you’re shipping empty collapsible metal tubes and use corrugated boxes only, following notes 187762–187763; add dividers, sleeves, or paper interleaf to prevent dents and scuffing.
- Palletize cartons upright with edge protectors and tight stretch-wrap; avoid high top-load pressure to keep tubes from ovaling or creasing during transit.
- Quote using the fixed class within 85–125 as directed by the item notes; list “NMFC 187760 – boxed” on the BOL so carriers rate it correctly.
- If caps, nozzles, or keys ship with the tubes, bag small parts and mark cartons “components enclosed” to reduce shortages and speed receiving counts.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable fixed-class rating (85–125) reduces density disputes and reclass fees.
- Non-hazardous commodity enables wider carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges.
- Boxed-only requirement standardizes packaging SOPs, lowering damage claims for soft, dent-prone metal tubes.
- Clear reference to notes 187762–187763 supports accurate LTL quotes and faster invoice audits.
