Notes
Note 189039: NOTE-Applies on institutional, hotel, restaurant, cafeteria or dining room trucks, carts or wagons equipped with spring loaded platforms to position the dish, tray, plate, cup or glass for removal.
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Stabilize mechanisms: compress and pin the self-leveling stacks, lock or remove casters, and strap doors or lids so springs and platforms cannot bounce in transit.
- Protect heated units: allow cooldown, coil and cap power cords, pad thermostats and control panels with foam, and bag hardware to prevent moisture or impact damage.
- Palletize properly: use a pallet at least the footprint of the cart, add corner posts, band in two directions, and mark Do Not Stack for tall, top-heavy dispensers.
- Document clearly: list NMFC 189038, Class 92.5, piece count, and packaging as packages; reference Note item 189039 if your model has special features or exceptions.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 92.5 with no density needed streamlines quoting and avoids reclass disputes on dish and tray dispensing carts.
- One classification covers heated and non-heated self-leveling units, simplifying procurement and multi-location rollouts for hospitals, cafeterias, and caterers.
- Packaging in recognized packages reduces claim risk on delicate springs and plate platforms, cutting replacement and downtime costs.
- Predictable rating helps compare LTL vs blanket-wrap or FTL options, improving cost control for seasonal banquet or tray-line equipment moves.
