How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Note fixed NMFC Class 150 on the BOL and list the item as motor-propelled amusement cars (complete car or chassis).
- Prep units by draining fuel and oil, disconnecting batteries, and capping terminals to avoid dangerous goods surcharges and leaks.
- Crate or secure to heavy skids; strap to frame points (not plastic bodywork) and block wheels to prevent movement during LTL handling.
- Measure overall footprint with bumpers and guards attached; request liftgate or appointment services for theme park or fairground docks.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing from a fixed Class 150 reduces reclass risk and surprise rebills.
- Faster quoting and tendering since density and packaging type do not change the class.
- Lower claims exposure by crating and bracing frames, steering columns, and body panels built for rides, not over-the-road vibration.
- Plan multi-unit moves (e.g., fleets of go-karts) to consolidate and cut per-unit freight cost while simplifying scheduling.
