How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Mark the BOL with NMFC 193510 and Class 100, and note whether each piece is in a box or a crate to match the item’s fixed rating.
- Protect the cloth panel from moisture and abrasion: bag the screen, pad the metal or wooden frame corners, and add a rigid backer before closing the box.
- Choose crates for oversized or fragile frames; block and brace inside the crate, strap to a pallet, and keep vents upright to prevent bowing.
- For boxed units, use double‑wall corrugated, avoid overhang on the pallet, and apply “Do Not Crush” or “Do Not Stack” where frame rigidity is a concern.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with a fixed Class 100 reduces reclass risk and surprise rebills.
- Specified boxes or crates lower damage rates on framed cloth vents, cutting claims and replacements.
- Non-hazardous status speeds carrier acceptance and simplifies paperwork for retrofit or construction timelines.
- Flexible packing options support LTL consolidation, improving cube utilization and overall freight spend.
