How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use sealed, double‑wall cartons with an inner poly bag to contain fibers; ideal for insulation batts, filter media, or acoustic rolls.
- Palletize cartons tightly, add corner boards and a top sheet, then strap; avoid placing heavy freight on top to prevent compression damage.
- Mark cartons “Glass Wool — Boxed, NMFC 200100, Class 200” and list piece count; this helps carriers verify the fixed class quickly.
- Apply this item only when the material is boxed; loose, bagged, or bundled glass wool may rate under different NMFC items.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable billing at Class 200 reduces reclass fees and inspection delays for fiberglass shipments.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges or paperwork.
- Boxed packaging improves claim outcomes by preventing fiber shed and contamination in transit.
- Clear, packaging-based classification speeds quoting and tendering, helping you lock in rates faster for light, bulky freight.
