How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 23380 and Class 85 on the BOL and labels to prevent reclass fees and speed carrier acceptance.
- Coil belts loosely and box them with edge protectors; add moisture barrier wrap and “Do Not Bend” handling marks.
- If shipping multiple belts, use sleeves or interleave kraft paper to prevent abrasion, then palletize boxes with low compression stacking.
- When bales are used by the supplier, overwrap and band securely; many LTL carriers still prefer boxed belts for damage control.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing: fixed Class 85 eliminates density math and quote variability.
- Lower claim risk: boxed canvas belts resist creasing and surface damage, cutting replacement and reship costs.
- Broad carrier coverage: non-hazardous textile belts move easily across standard LTL networks.
- Lean operations: standardized packaging enables consolidated shipments to laundries and OEM service teams, reducing per‑unit freight.
