NMFC 24220 - Dried Blood in Bags or Drums | Class 50

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Verify coverage using the Note for item 24282, then list NMFC 24220 on the BOL. Use the commodity name “Blood, dried” and specify bags or drums with piece counts and total weight.
2. For bagged product, choose heavy multiwall or poly-lined bags. Palletize in interlocked layers on 48x40 pallets, add corner boards, stretch wrap tightly, and top-sheet to keep moisture out.
3. For drums, use tight-head steel or fiber drums with liners. Torque bungs/lids, band drums two ways to a pallet, and block to prevent rolling. Avoid double-stacking unless packaging is rated.
4. Rating tip: a 2,000 lb pallet of 50 lb bags bills at fixed Class 50. Density isn’t required, but precise weights and counts help prevent reclass and inspection fees.
