NMFC Description Class
25500.00 Boiler Arches or Sidewall or Arch Blocks, iron and firebrick combined 50

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. List the item on the BOL as “Boiler Arches or Sidewall/Arch Blocks, iron and firebrick combined – NMFC 25500, Class 50” to prevent reclass and inspections.
  2. Palletize or crate with the iron face down and cushion the firebrick surfaces using foam, corrugated pads, or honeycomb. Add edge protectors and steel/plastic banding.
  3. Distribute weight evenly on a 4‑way pallet, block and brace to stop shifting, and apply Do Not Stack cones for fragile refractory surfaces.
  4. Photo-document packing layers and label each unit with piece count and orientation arrows to reduce shortage and damage claims.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Class 50 rating helps secure lower LTL rates for these dense iron–firebrick assemblies.
  • Simple, non-density classification speeds quoting and tendering, cutting admin time and reclass risk.
  • Proper bracing and cushioning limit brick chipping and abrasion against iron, reducing claim costs.
  • Accurate BOL wording for NMFC 25500 curbs carrier adjustments and keeps invoices predictable.
