Classification Details

NMFC Description Class
30700.00 Plate or Sheet, clad, coated or plated with nickel-iron-chromium alloy, in wrapped bundles securely metal-strapped, see Note, item 106722 100

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Bundle sheets tightly, fully wrap (e.g., poly or VCI), and secure with steel straps; add corner and edge protectors so the nickel-alloy cladding isn’t marred by strap pressure.
  2. Stage on skids with even dunnage for fork clearance. Keep bundle lengths consistent and mark weight, piece count, and orientation arrows to speed cross-dock handling.
  3. Control moisture: the cladding is corrosion-resistant, but copper/brass bases can tarnish. Use desiccant or VCI wrap for humid lanes or ocean moves.
  4. State “wrapped, metal-strapped bundles” on the BOL, cite NMFC 30700 and Note 106722, and include alloy/heat numbers when traceability matters for aerospace, marine, or process-industry buyers.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 100 simplifies quotes and removes density disputes, reducing reclass and inspection fees.
  • Standardized bundled packaging cuts handling time at terminals, often lowering accessorials and improving on-time performance.
  • Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and helps avoid hazmat surcharges or special routing.
  • Lower damage risk from proper wrapping and strapping curbs claims, preserves surface quality, and protects resale value.
