Notes

Note 34292: NOTE-Doors or door sections or grilles tendered for shipment on lift truck skids or pallets must be securely fastened to and must not overhang the edges of the lift truck skid or pallet deck. Exposed surfaces and edges must be protected by packing forms or other packaging materials so as to withstand the normal rigors of the less-than-truckload environment.

How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Package sections rigidly: use crated A-frames or skid bases with edge guards, interleave panels, and apply stretch wrap plus banding to resist flex and racking in transit.
  2. Coil rolling/curtain grilles on a sturdy core, cap the ends, then strap to a pallet; add blocking so the roll cannot telescope or shift during fork handling.
  3. Include motors, tracks, and fittings in the same package when practical; bag small hardware and place inside a boxed kit so everything ships under NMFC 34290.
  4. On the BOL, list NMFC 34290, Class 125, non-hazardous. No density needed, but note any overlength (e.g., >8–12 ft) to anticipate carrier length surcharges and proper trailer placement.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 125 gives predictable LTL pricing and minimizes reclass fees for oversized panels and grille rolls.
  • One classification for door sections plus motors/fittings streamlines rate shopping, cuts extra line items, and reduces minimum charges.
  • Damage mitigation from proper packaged shipments (per item 34290) lowers claims on high-finish panels and reduces costly jobsite delays.
  • Faster quoting for door dealers and contractors: simple item lookup, fewer specs to provide, and clearer BOLs improve billing accuracy.
