How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use NMFC 34335 when shipping interior revolving doors made of metal or plastic that are packaged in boxes or crates; review Note item 34336 for any scope exceptions.
- Crate the center shaft and ceiling ring, and box the wings/panels separately with rigid edge guards and foam blocking to prevent scuffing and bending.
- Keep the rotation axis upright. Mark “This Side Up,” “Do Not Lay Flat,” and “Do Not Spin” on each box or crate to avoid alignment damage.
- Palletize each box or crate with no overhang, add cross‑straps, and choose a crate for preassembled sections or heavier hardware kits.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 300 removes density debates, yielding faster quotes and fewer re-class fees for project shipments.
- Proper boxing/crating under the correct NMFC improves claim defensibility for precise alignment parts like center posts and ring assemblies.
- Consolidating accessories (push bars, canopies, trim) in the same boxed/crated line item streamlines the BOL and reduces handling charges.
- Non-hazardous designation expands carrier options and accelerates tendering for timed jobsite deliveries and rollouts.
