Classification Details
| NMFC | Description | Class |
|---|---|---|
| 34630.00 | Facings or Panels, brick, mounted on expanded plastic, in packages, having a density in pounds per cubic foot of 15 or greater | 70 |
How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm density meets 15+ pcf: weigh the sealed package and divide by cubic feet (example: 120 lb over 8 cu ft = 15 pcf qualifies). Record the figure on the BOL.
- Palletize with no overhang and protect edges: use cornerboards, a rigid top sheet, and softeners under bands so brick faces don’t chip against the foam core.
- Orient panels vertically on the pallet when possible to reduce point loading on the brick surface, and fill voids with foam spacers to stop vibration rub.
- Mark documents and labels with “NMFC 34630 – Class 70,” package count, and packaging type (packages). Add “Non-hazardous” to streamline carrier handling.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable Class 70 rating at 15+ pcf density helps lock in sharper LTL rates versus higher blanket classes for mixed building materials.
- Accurate density marks minimize reclass and inspection fees, protecting margins and speeding up billing with fewer carrier disputes.
- Damage reduction from proper edge and face protection cuts claim frequency on brick-on-foam composites, lowering total cost of freight.
- Package-ready, non-hazardous freight broadens carrier options and improves service availability for time-sensitive construction projects.
