How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List NMFC 35250 and Class 70 on the BOL for aluminum-faced plywood panels; no density rating is needed for this item.
- Stack panels square on a sturdy pallet with foam or slip sheets between faces, add corner/edge guards, then use 2–3 steel or poly bands with edge protectors.
- If not boxed, brace the stack to the pallet with wood cleats and cross-members so it cannot shift; example: 48×96 inch panels, 25-sheet bundle, three bands, two cleats.
- Protect from moisture and scuffing with a top cap sheet and stretch wrap; avoid banding directly on exposed aluminum and mark as Do Not Double Stack if applicable.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 70 delivers predictable LTL quotes and minimizes reclass surprises for building materials shipments.
- Package or pallet-fastened options align with carrier handling, speeding cross-dock moves and reducing accessorial delays.
- Better edge and face protection on aluminum surfaces lowers damage claims and total landed cost for contractors and fabricators.
- Clear NMFC coverage for painted or unpainted, single- or double-faced panels simplifies compliance and helps procurement plan reliable freight budgets.
