How to Determine Your Class

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

  1. Verify the product fits: aluminum thresholds or sills, or aluminum combined with rubber/flexible plastic. Different materials may require a different NMFC.
  2. Use boxes or 150‑lb test fiberboard containers. Cap ends, wrap edges, and interleave pieces to prevent scuffing during transit.
  3. For long lengths (e.g., 72–96 inches), palletize boxed units with corner boards and avoid overhang. Strap securely and keep labels visible on the long side.
  4. Declare Class 70 and non-hazardous. List piece count and total weight, and note overall length to anticipate any carrier overlength fees.

Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.

Business Value

  • Fixed Class 70 delivers predictable LTL rates and simpler quoting for construction suppliers and door fabricators.
  • 150‑lb test packaging standard lowers in-transit damage risk for slender extrusions, cutting claim expenses.
  • Accurate NMFC mapping reduces reclass penalties and shipment delays at cross-docks.
  • Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and streamlines paperwork, accelerating time to delivery.
