NMFC 38070 - Newel Posts | Class 70

To find the correct freight class for your shipment:

1. Reference NMFC item 37504 and Class 70 on the BOL; for example, “Newel posts, wood, 6 pcs bundled on 96-inch skid” to prevent reclass fees.
2. Bundle posts with edge protectors and soft dunnage; cap turned finials, sleeve finished pieces, then stretch wrap. Crate high-value hardwoods to avoid dents and scuffs.
3. Plan for length handling. Pieces over 96 inches can trigger overlength fees—use full-length pallets, mark Do Not Stack, and position bands away from decorative profiles.
4. Control moisture during transit. Use poly sheeting and desiccant for kiln-dried or stained posts to limit warp or finish damage from humidity and road spray.
