How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Confirm the unit type and review Notes for NMFC items 37504 and 37612 to match the correct cabinet-style wall seat/table listing before tendering.
- Package as cabinetry: immobilize folding mechanisms with foam blocks and zip ties, add corner/edge protectors, and bag all loose hardware inside the same package.
- Palletize face-up, avoid clamp handling, and mark Do Not Stack/Do Not Clamp on all sides to prevent racking of the cabinet box and hinge damage.
- Record outside cabinet dimensions and piece count on the BOL; include NMFC 38230 and “packages” so terminals route it as building woodwork casework.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Accurate NMFC 38230 usage reduces reclass fees and shortens invoice audits for casework-style wall seats and tables.
- Cabinet-grade packaging lowers claims by protecting hinges, latches, and finished faces, cutting costly site repairs or replacements.
- Clear “packages” designation streamlines LTL handling steps and minimizes special handling charges for non-crated casework.
- Consistent labeling and item references speed dock processing and improve delivery predictability to job sites and installers.
