How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use heavy-duty double-wall cartons and cap or remove casters before boxing; add foam or honeycomb pads to protect plastic panels and any mixed-material hardware.
- Palletize boxed cabinets with wheels oriented toward the pallet center; add corner boards and stretch wrap, keeping height conservative (e.g., 48x40 pallet, max two-high).
- Document clearly on the BOL: NMFC 39490, Class 125, non-hazardous, packaging type "boxes," and describe as plastic wheeled storage cabinet for wiper blades/parts.
- Secure shelves and doors with zip ties or bands; bag fasteners and small wiper components; apply “This Side Up” and “Do Not Stack” labels where caster puncture is a risk.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 125 rating avoids density calculations, speeding quotes and reducing reclass or reweigh disputes.
- Boxed requirement enables wider carrier acceptance and gentler handling for plastic cabinetry with mixed components.
- Proper caster immobilization and internal bracing cut transit damage and claims, protecting margins on aftermarket parts programs.
- Single NMFC entry covers plastic with other materials, simplifying SKU documentation across suppliers and distribution centers.
