How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Cap and pad all drains and hose barbs, bag loose fittings, and wrap splash guards to prevent snagging during LTL handling.
- Use a rigid crate or double‑wall carton on a pallet; block under the base and rim so the basin can’t flex. Example: a 48x30x10 sink centered on a 48x40 pallet with edge protectors.
- For acrylic or PVC print washers, interleave soft foam or felt and avoid tape on finished surfaces; use stretch film over a protective wrap instead.
- Mark This Side Up and Fragile, avoid stacking, and strap the unit to the pallet. Note “no electrical/mechanical components” on the BOL for clarity.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Correct NMFC 39744 usage for non-powered darkroom sinks reduces reclass risk and surprise fees.
- Non-hazardous and no electronics streamlines paperwork, eliminates hazmat surcharges, and speeds tendering.
- Crated or palletized packaging cuts damage rates on large, lightweight basins, lowering claim exposure and total landed cost.
- Clear photos, dimensions, and a detailed packing description help carriers price confidently and unlock better LTL rates.
