How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Verify the screen is non-motorized; motorized models fall under a different NMFC and can trigger reclass.
- Pack the roller tube snugly in a box or crate with end-cap padding, lock the roller, and sleeve the fabric to prevent creases; wrap detachable stands separately.
- If palletizing, keep cartons vertical, add corner boards, and strap light-to-long boxes to prevent bowing; avoid stacking heavy goods on the tube.
- Print the BOL with NMFC 39770, Class 85, and piece counts (e.g., 2 boxes: screen + stand) to speed dock checks and reduce inspection delays.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 85 means no density math for long, light screens—faster rating and more predictable LTL quotes.
- Non-hazardous commodity eliminates hazmat paperwork and related fees, trimming total landed cost.
- Approved packaging in boxes or crates fits OEM cartons or custom wood builds, reducing repack labor and damage claims.
- Clear scope—portable roller screens, not motor-operated—lowers reclass risk and keeps surcharge disputes off your invoice.
