How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use sturdy double-wall boxes with dividers or molded trays; line cartons with food-grade poly to limit moisture from husks and label as Produce—Coconuts.
- Book at fixed Class 77.5—no density needed. Provide counts per box and pallet totals, e.g., 12-count boxes, 40 boxes per pallet, about 1,200 lb.
- Control movement and crush: fill voids, add corner boards and a top cap, and wrap tightly. Keep pallet height within receiver specs to prevent shell cracking.
- Match the NMFC entry. While it covers bags and drums, most LTL networks prefer boxed shipments for automation and spill resistance.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
