How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Book as NMFC 50075, Class 55. It’s weight-based—list total weight per handling unit on the BOL; no density calculation needed.
- Pack resin cans upright in double‑wall boxes with dividers and taped lids, or ship in tight‑closing pails. Bag hardener tubes and keep separate from resin inside the carton.
- If the hardener ships in a separate package, use the same NMFC and note “Companion Package – Hardener Tubes” on labels and paperwork for clear linkage.
- Palletize mixed cartons and pails on a single skid, use corner boards, and stretch‑wrap to containment. Avoid top‑loading on pails and protect from temperature extremes to preserve material quality.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable, lower LTL costs from a fixed Class 55—ideal for durable, packaged resin systems.
- Faster quoting and fewer rebills thanks to a straightforward weight-based rating with no density disputes.
- Clear packing practices reduce leak and cure-on-contact risks, cutting damage claims and reship expenses.
- Consolidate cans, pails, and tube packs under one NMFC, simplifying dock handling and minimizing accessorial fees.
