How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote LTL using NMFC 51164 at Class 150; no density or dimensional rating needed for this item.
- Palletize and brace each joint; cap open ends, shield flanges and bellows, and wrap gaskets or liners to prevent impact and debris intrusion.
- Use corner protectors and “Do Not Crush/This Side Up” labels; avoid top-stacking to protect telescoping sleeves and formed bellows.
- Describe clearly on the BOL: “Metal expansion joints for air/gas ducts or flues,” include piece count, material (steel/aluminum), and largest OD or flange size.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
