How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Pack each aerial delivery container in a rigid box; immobilize fittings and any platform/skid components with blocking foam or bracing to prevent internal shift.
- Protect canvas/duck fabric from moisture: line the box with poly or a vapor barrier and add desiccants—especially for coastal or humid lanes.
- Mark clearly: “Aerial Delivery Cargo Containers—Canvas/Duck” with orientation arrows. List NMFC 52710, Class 92.5 on the BOL to avoid reclass.
- Palletize boxed units when possible—strap and wrap with corner boards to protect edges. Provide actual weight and dimensions for carrier handling, even though class is fixed.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Single, fixed Class 92.5 pricing minimizes reclass risk and stabilizes LTL rate quoting.
- Boxed packaging aligns with standard hub-and-spoke handling, reducing damage claims on fabric and fittings.
- Streamlined tendering for defense, aerospace, and relief suppliers—faster bids and fewer documentation corrections.
- Accurate NMFC usage supports compliance and audit trails, cutting admin time and potential carrier disputes.
