How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List the commodity on the BOL as “NMFC 54330 – Cotton Linters Pulp or Cotton Seed Hull Shavings Pulp, in packages” and reference Note, item 54332 if applicable.
- Use sealed multiwall bags with poly liners or tight bales, then palletize with a slip sheet, corner boards, and full stretch-wrap to contain fine fibers and dust.
- Keep product dry and odor-free: ship in a clean, dry van, add a top cap, and avoid trailers that recently hauled spices, chemicals, or moisture-generating goods.
- Load light-on-top to prevent compression, band pallets securely, and block-and-brace to stop shifting; request no top-stacking for fragile bagged pallets.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
