How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- List the full description on the BOL: “Deodorants, carpet or rug, powdered—inner containers in boxes or Package 2341; Class 65” to avoid reclass delays.
- Seal inner containers to prevent dust leak. Line cartons with a poly bag and tape seams; example: 12 x 16‑oz shakers per box with a tight-fitting insert.
- Palletize upright and limit stack height to protect closures. Use corner boards, a top sheet, and stretch wrap with at least 3 bottom wraps for stability.
- Keep scented powders away from food or fragrance-sensitive freight. Mark orientation arrows and note “scented goods” to minimize odor-transfer claims.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 65 simplifies quoting—no density calculations, faster rate shopping, and fewer reclass fees.
- Package 2341 compliance reduces leakage, dust contamination, and OS&D claims, protecting margins.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and helps avoid hazmat surcharges or paperwork.
- Clear labeling and sturdy boxing cut handling time at terminals, improving on‑time performance and lowering accessorial risks.
