How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Seal every inner container (e.g., shakers or jars) with a tight cap and tamper/induction seal, then place each in a polybag to prevent powder sifting.
- Use a rigid corrugated master carton for the boxed inners; fill voids with kraft or foam to stop movement and add a desiccant to protect the adhesive from humidity.
- Palletize cartons upright, apply corner boards, and stretch-wrap top and bottom; mark the BOL with “NMFC 59080, Class 125 – Non-Haz” for quick carrier processing.
- When mixing with other dental supplies, separate from liquids or strong odors; for example, keep mouthwash or disinfectants in a different layer to avoid contamination risks.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Fixed Class 125 rating eliminates density calculations, speeding quotes and reducing reclass fees for routine LTL moves.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges, cutting total landed cost.
- Boxed inner containers minimize leakage claims and product loss, improving delivery quality for pharmacies and dental clinics.
- Clear NMFC description (single classification) simplifies documentation and training, reducing administrative time per shipment.
