How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Quote at fixed Class 200—no density needed. List NMFC 59250 on the BOL and select the correct packaging (boxes, bags, bales, or drums).
- Protect from moisture: use bag-in-box liners, seal inner poly, add desiccants, and apply top sheets before stretch-wrapping pallets.
- Keep away from odor-heavy freight (perfumes, cleaners) since agar-agar can absorb smells. Request segregation or use pallet covers as needed.
- Palletize with even tiers and corner boards. Avoid overstacking brittle boxes and mark Keep Dry/Do Not Double Stack where appropriate.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable costs from a fixed Class 200 reduce reclass fees and billing disputes.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and avoids hazmat surcharges.
- Clear NMFC 59250 reference speeds audits and vendor compliance for pharma and personal care supply chains.
- Moisture-focused packaging lowers damage claims, protecting margins and delivery timelines.
