How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use sturdy corrugated boxes and add a moisture barrier (poly bag or liner) so enzymes stay dry; cushion retail boxes or vials to prevent tablet chipping.
- Palletize with light, even stacking; avoid top-load pressure and use corner boards and stretch wrap. Mark pallets Do Not Top Load if tablets are brittle.
- List NMFC 59410 and Class 250 on the BOL as “Enzymatic contact lens cleaning tablets, in boxes; with or without vials.” Density entry is not required for this item.
- Keep product away from liquids and temperature extremes during transit. For sensitive batches, choose faster LTL services to limit cross-dock exposure.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Predictable pricing with a fixed Class 250 reduces reclass charges and surprise invoices.
- Non-hazardous status cuts hazmat paperwork and surcharges, expanding carrier options and speeding tendering.
- Boxed format streamlines fulfillment for medical distributors and eye care clinics, lowering damage claims from crushed or moisture-exposed tablets.
- One code covers tablets with or without vials, simplifying SKU management and accelerating BOL preparation.
