How to Determine Your Class
To find the correct freight class for your shipment:
- Use this item when shipping duct- or inline-mounted dust arresters/collectors that are not powered dust collection machines; note material (galvanized steel, aluminum, composite) and inlet/outlet size.
- Protect delicate internals—screens, baffles, and vanes—by capping openings and using foam or corrugated inserts; mark flanges and sight ports to prevent crush damage.
- Package small units in double-wall cartons with edge guards; place larger housings on a pallet with blocking and banding, and add “Do Not Stack” cones if vanes could deform.
- Describe the application (spray booths, woodworking lines, HVAC retrofits) to avoid misclassification as full machinery and to speed accurate rating.
Note: All classifications are subject to Item 170. Verify with official NMFC publications for the most current requirements.
Business Value
- Clear separation of components from machines reduces reclass risk and helps avoid higher machinery-rate exceptions.
- Non-hazardous status broadens carrier options and simplifies paperwork, improving quote speed and transit flexibility.
- Right-sized packaging and bracing cut damage rates and accessorials, protecting margins and delivery timelines.
- Consistent item descriptions streamline LTL quoting across vendors and lanes, improving rate benchmarking and predictability.
